About VIC

The Vermont Institute on the Caribbean (VIC) has evolved from the work of the Vermont Institute on Cuba which for several years has developed successful initiatives in support of the people of Cuba.

VIC has collaborated with Cuban partners in the areas of:

  • education
  • historic preservation
  • medicine and public health
  • music and the arts

VIC is presently developing program initiatives in accordance with its U.S. State and Commerce Department licenses for conducting activities in Cuba.

VIC has also extended its commitment and resources into the Caribbean Basin with a particular focus on the Puerto Plata region of the Dominican Republic.

Through collaborative partnerships with established and grassroots organizations, VIC is developing capacity-building projects that include:

  • research and professional development,
  • health and educational programming
  • historic preservation
  • community revitalization
  • leadership development and
  • cultural exchange

At this next phase of programming, VIC seeks committed partners for collaborative realization of Board-directed initiatives currently underway in both Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

We welcome everyone interested in contributing to the realization of projects at all levels of programming and exchange:

  • artists
  • activists
  • educators
  • health care providers
  • professionals and students
  • community leaders and service providers
